To create texture, after applying base values, "noodle" to create a bit of a randomized texture that will feel like leather, velvet or similar types of character.

When rendering "black" (or white) materials, remember it's all about creating value changes. Beginning with the lightest highlight values, add in value for mid-tone and core shade depth.

Curtains are simply a series of cylinders, rolling inward and outward. Allow the values to change away from highlighting along the cylinder highlight surface.

Remember, the color is really the least important factor in creating realistic surface changes. This example of reflections and curtains demonstrates that even in a white space, we have to apply value changes. Remember, there's no such thing as "white". Values.
