FIELD SKETCHING AND VIGNETTES

Vignettes are small studies one does while field sketching. They are meant to capture the essence of an area or focus in on just a small area to better understand detail relationships.

The small study of this sofa below is a vignette, while the full scene to the right is far more involved.

Vignettes don't just apply to architecture, interiors and environments, they're also common in automotive design, especially with car interiors and headlight details.
